A locus is a stable point on the genome where a specific gene may be identified. A diploid species receives either a replica from identical allele or one clone of two different alleles from its progenitors. If a child inherits two similar alleles at the same site, their genotype is homozygous (Rauch et al., 2017). If they have two different alleles for that location, their genotype is said to be synergistic. There are autosomal dominant and recessive alleles in the same gene. In terms of expression, a dominant autosomal allele will always outweigh a recessive allele. A person's genotype is determined by the combination of alleles they carry for a specific gene.
