Classical Conditioning and Email Anxiety Name Institution Course Professor Date Classical Conditioning and Email Anxiety A personal example of classical conditioning is the anxiety I have developed related to the sound of my work email alert. In a past job, during a stressful time, I frequently had urgent or critical messages from my boss sent through email. These messages commonly called for prompt responses and usually had negative overtones, evoking strong feelings of anxiety. I started getting anxious after reading the emails and hearing the alert tone, even during non-work hours. The unconditioned stimulus (US) here was getting a stressful email, and the unconditioned response (UR) was anxiety tension. The email notification sound became the conditioned stimulus (CS) that was previously neutral (Goic et al., 2021). The conditioned response (CR) emerged as anxiety caused by the sound of the notification, even for an email that had nothing to do with work.
