Making a Bed
Chaining is a method of instruction in which a problematic skill is disassembled into its component parts and taught separately before being reassembled (Muharib et al., 2019). In this paper, I will talk about the knowledge base that includes the ability to make a bed and provide a task analysis for that ability. The essay will also detail how to implement forward chaining or another chaining process to effectively instruct a customer in a new capability.
Task Analysis
1 Collect the necessary items, including a mattress, fitted sheet, pillowcases, blankets, and pillows.
2 Let the client respond to the stimulus of what is needed to make the bed.
3 Assemble the items collected above and place them on the bed.
4 Use old bedsheets as a visual clue.
5 Throw away the used bedding.
6 Prompt the client about fitting sheets.
7 Get the fitted sheet and tuck its top beneath the mattress.
8 Indicate the sheet's flatness to the client.
9 Take the flat sheet and lay it straight and smooth over the fitted sheet.
10 Use pillowcases as a visual clue.
