Through his work in “Can Love Last: The Fate of Romance over Time”, Mitchell (2003) provides a clear and simple account of Freud’s complex theories on human behavior. Mitchell introduces his book using Freud’s work and relies heavily on explaining romance and how human beings interact romantically. Mitchell also disapproves of the common hypothesis, which describes romance as a diminishing part of the human experience. He indicates that romance does not diminish, but it becomes dangerous. In one instance, Mitchell discusses intimacy and how one of his clients was having a hard time being intimate with his wife, yet they had been intimate at one point in their relationship (p.62).
