According to this theory, thoughts, feelings, and behaviors interact dynamically. Cognitive and behavioral interventions can make people resilient, disarm their distorted thinking, and obtain mental wellness. This paper describes my theoretical orientation based on CBT and how this theory interacts with my background, ethical framework, and Christian values within the therapeutic setting. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy offers the most coherent framework for my counseling philosophy, emphasizing structured change, measurable progress, and compatibility with Christian ethical principles. Human Nature and Change CBT better illustrates my perceptions of human nature and its ability to change. Initial experiences and external circumstances do not determine a person; he or she can overcome them. The CBT model is semi-deterministic in its operation- it considers the importance of past learning but instead focuses on the present-day thought as the mode of change. This view is consistent with my view that individuals can be renewed and grow by providing them with self-understanding and reorganizing maladaptive thoughts. The central tenet of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy lies in the assumption that the introduction of a long-term psychological transformation should start with recognizing and reconstructing dysfunctional thinking patterns. According to CBT, emotional disturbance is a result of irrational or distorted thinking, and in the course of therapy, the clients are taught how to recognize and rectify these thoughts (Fernandes, 2022). This aligns with my conviction that change can be achieved with the help of guided self-observations, psychoeducation, and organized intervention. This is because, as Omiyefa (2025) observes, CBT is especially useful in high-risk groups like individuals with substance abuse and suicidal thoughts, and this further strengthens the theory in its versatility and empirical power across multiple populations. Its well-organized but adaptable methods can be personalized without compromising theoretical soundness, so it effectively deals with various psychological challenges. Personal Background Being raised by parents in a Christian family with strict yet loving parenting has contributed to my understanding of the value of responsibility and reflection. Personal responsibility was a theme that was paramount in my parents ' lives, and this is similar to CBT since it focuses on individual agency.
