In this scenario, a defense attorney has engaged me as a forensic psychologist to assess an individual's ability to stand trial. The defendant is accused of sexually assaulting and abusing multiple children in the county. My reaction to this scenario is compassion for the victimized children and a protective response to children. These feelings must be managed to avoid interfering with professional practice.
