Evolution in the Field of Behavior Analysis from the 1980s till now
Since the 1980s, ABA has grown and changed considerably from being a field of study mainly focused on reducing problem behaviors to one that is more holistic, person-centered, and inclusive. One positive change in ABA is developing and enriching ethical standards and client-centered care. This shift likely arose because there is a growing appreciation of the need to balance behavior change with dignity and the client's rights (Bailey & Burch, 2020). Another positive evolution in this area has been the establishment of professional organizations. The Behavior Analyst Certification Board (2020) sets higher standards for training, certification, and ethical conduct. These standards ensure that the behavior analyst has the knowledge, skills, and experience to provide high-quality, evidence-based services prioritizing the client's well-being.
