The main difference between linear regression and logistic regression appears at the output level because logistic regression calculates the probability distribution among categories. This model applies the logistic function to convert all real numbers into a probability range between 0 and 1. The model constructs an estimation of how independent variables influence log odds values regarding which category the dependent variable will fall into. Logistic regression functions across medicine and both social sciences and marketing because it helps predict whether a certain event will occur or not.
