Null and Alternative Hypotheses
Understanding the difference between supporting the alternative hypothesis and failing to reject the null hypothesis requires us first to understand the meaning of the hypotheses. According to our textbook reading, the null hypothesis is the competing views about the population. On the other hand, the former is the idea for which we conduct research and experiments to establish significant evidence (Frost, 2020). Hence, the purpose of the alternative hypothesis is to produce results that must be less than, unequal to, or greater than the population. In contrast, the null hypothesis must be equal to or significantly comparable to the population under study.
