The sample data used in the study depicts the costs of marketing, such as revenue, planned revenue, and gross profit. The study explains the behavior of sales in Singapore and Australia through different channels, such as Web, e-mail, store, and telephone. To test if marketing in each country is a viable option, the study incorporates the hypothesis that is tested, thus providing the results below. As usual in such tests using ANOVA, the decision is to reject the null hypothesis if p-value appears less than the 0.05 significance level and if F-value is greater than F-critical. As for Z-tests, the comparison samples have known values for means and variances. Here, if the Z-calculated value is greater than the Z-critical (1.645 for one-tailed tests and 1.96 for two-tailed tests), the decision is to reject the null hypothesis in favor of the alternative.
Z-TEST
H0: The gross profit for the sales through the web is less than or equal to the gross profit for the sales through the telephone in Australia.
H1: The gross profit for the sales through the web is greater than the gross profit for the sales through the telephone in Australia.
Two samples; Australian gross profit for sales via web and those via telephone are compared against each other. The Z-test above shows a z-calculated value of 2.5101 which is >1.645. Therefore, we reject the null hypothesis and conclude that the gross profit for sales through the web is greater than that of sales through telephone in Australia.
ANOVA
Using the same hypothesis highlighted above, from the ANOVA output for the p-value 0.061941>0.05. Also, the F-value is less than F-critical. Therefore, the null hypothesis is rejected and the conclusion is that sales made through the network have greater gross profit value than that of sales through telephone.
