While understanding the different musical terminologies is not necessary in order to enjoy any musical performance, having a knowledge of the components of music and performance significantly enriches one’s experience.
Accordingly, one of the musical performances that I watched was Ubi Caritas’ Durufle, performed in UB Claudia Brown last August 2019. It was a very smooth and melodic performance based from the Maurice Durufle’s original composition. Although it was short, about 2 minutes in length, its duration is similar to most many Gregorian chants in classical music.
I liked how the song started with a monophonic texture, which was then immediately followed by a polyphonic texture by overlapping two melodic lines on top of one another. It is clear that the...
