Discussion
In the recent past, there has been an increase in the prices of fuel that is used in the air transport sector. The fuel largely determines the cost of operation as far as aviation is concerned. Managing the cost of fuel for the aviation sector has been a challenge for all the stakeholders involved in the industry (Zuurbier et al., 2010). Research conducted by one of the companies participating in the air transport business stated that over ten years ago the fuel prices consumed more than 28% of the total operating costs and was likely to increase by about 50% shortly.
In addition to an increase in the operations cost increase in the fuel prices also reduces the urge for air transport as well as the movement of air cargo. Although air traffic is fast and reliable, most people shy away from it because of the high prices incurred with that mode of transport. With fewer people willing to use air travel most air transport companies have been making losses which lead to the closure of these enterprises.
In the future airplane, operators should come up with various strategies which can be used to reduce the cost of air transport fuel (Spernjak et al., 2007). One way that can be very effective is the improvement of infrastructure which is directly involved in aviation. Well designed runways and taxiways reduce the fuel burnt by the planes and in return reducing the amount of money used to buy fuel. Once the fuel prices have reduced, it is easy to reduce the cost of buying air travel tickets and therefore attracting a big number of people seeking air transport which will give the air transport companies profit.
