Communicating Difference at Microsoft Student Name Institution Course Professor Date Communicating Difference at Microsoft The company that is the focus of this paper is Microsoft Corporation, a multinational technology company that is based in Redmond, Washington. Its official web site, microsoft.com, bears information on the purpose of the company and how it has remained dedicated to diversity and inclusion. According to a recent article on Yahoo News, Microsoft has resolved to no longer release its usual diversity and inclusion report but, instead, began to include DEI information in their larger sustainability reports (Johnson, 2025). With this shift, the company has attracted the attention of the population on the manner in which it conveys its diversity agendas. I selected Microsoft since it is one of the largest and most powerful global organizations, and it is long-established in its culture and communication strategy of incorporating diversity and inclusion in its organizational culture. Diversity at Microsoft is a very profound factor in the way the company communicates with one another and with the outside world. Diversity within the company promotes cooperation among employees with various cultural and professional backgrounds, which develops an open communication trend, respect, and inclusion. Externally, diversity assists in shaping Microsoft as a globally responsible and innovative corporation. Maier and Ravazzani (2019) notes that Microsoft practices communication combining diversity management and CSR purposely, to achieve legitimacy and define ethical commitment. Through this integration the company is able to position diversity more as a workforce program rather than as part of its identity and mission. Microsoft deals with diversity in light of various concepts, which are in tandem with what the theories presented in communications and diversity studies explain. This is an important factor of cultural competence since Microsoft teaches its employees to consider and value cultural diversity and be able to communicate beyond national and cultural boundaries.
