Risk management within a hospital setting is a complicated process because it requires the identification, assessment, and getting rid of risks within the healthcare environment. The role gets more difficult for a manager and more critical with new regulations within the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. As a risk manager, some steps need to be taken to make a program proactive in dealing with specific programs that happen in a hospital setting (Bunting & Siegal, 2017). Claims dealing with birth trauma, falling of visitors within a car park, and cases of delayed diagnosis of cancer patients should be stopped. The steps outlined below would assist in addressing these risks in the next 20 days.
Performing proactive risk assessments: this will be the first step for the risk manager in order to identify cases that can happen instead of responding to an accident that takes place. A risk manager should conduct analyses in situations where problems seem to happen, such as within the car park. The failures that lead to system failures will have to be looked at in the coming few days in order to ensure that no cases are coming from the car park. By conducting analyses of the car park, a risk manager will be in a good position to note the reasons why visitors fall within the car park, and that will help in reducing the accidents. One of the steps that will be taken by the risk manager is to ensure the car park is big enough to eliminate any obstacles on the way of visitors (Catalysts, 2018). The other thing to be done is to ensure there is enough lighting to avoid issues of visitors falling during the night.
Risk mitigating practices: A risk manager will have to ensure there are standardized practices within the organization to have a low-risk environment. All the practitioners and staff need to access the required information in order to know the right practices or procedures to be followed to eliminate any risk within the hospital setting. Messages and alerts can be created that ensure workers are reminded of guidelines, to ensure that the right environment for risk mitigation is achieved.
