Multinational Performance Report on Amazon
Overview:
The final project for this course is the creation of a multinational performance report. The report will investigate the motivation behind expanding business internationally, whether revenue-related or a cost-related or a combination of both. You will gain a better understanding of international business and the factors that make multinational business complex (e.g., risk management, ethical and legal compliance). As you work though this project, you will explore how the 2007–2008 financial crisis affected multinational corporations (MNCs), both with additional opportunities and potential risks. Amazon Corporation is a multinational company founded by Jeff Bezos in the twentieth century, 1994 to be precise. The company's original initiation happened in the founder's garage in Bellevue, Washington. Specifically, Amazon.com, Inc. operates in the E-commerce industry, where it delivers internet-based retail shopping services to its target customers ("Who We Are," 2022). As an online retailing leader on the planet, the firm expanded its operations towards the end of the 20th century to provide customers with a variety of products and services, which comprised electronics, books, toys, DVDs, CDs, housewares, and so forth. During the century, the internet and its relevance emerged across the planet. This implied the usage of computer-based systems by businesses to conduct their operations effectively, including forming a foundation in which businesses would connect with customers. When the internet's utilization became increasingly available to companies, Amazon chose the internet as a critical medium for commerce. Bezos became a pioneer in e-commerce. This factor extended the company's global reach to nearly every country worldwide.

Amazon is undoubtedly part of the international financial markets. Specifically, the company is an active participant in the bond markets, where it raises capital for its operation and expansion internationally. According to Joshua (2022), Amazon sold bonds worth $18.5 billion in May of the previous year to enhance corporate purposes, which comprised potential debt refinancing and repurchasing shares. The firm's cash, equivalents, and tradeable securities remained at $96 billion as of 2021; this was the highest amount ever reached.
