The two common approaches these entities use to ensure the successful completion of these projects include agile and traditional project management (Narasimman, 2024). Kanban and Scrum are examples of agile frameworks, adopted by software development, manufacturing, and IT companies because of the complex and dynamic environments in which they operate. Agile vs. Traditional Both the traditional and agile project management approaches are effective in overseeing and monitoring projects. However, there are specific differences between them, which makes some companies prefer to use one over the other. The traditional project management method adopts a linear approach that follows a defined sequence, which ensures predictability. In this method, all projects have to follow the same life cycle that is characterized by the established stages (Narasimman, 2024). The project management team plans the entire project and operates on the assumption that time and cost are variables, whereas the requirements are fixed. The challenge with this approach lies in its rigidity, which makes it unsuitable for large projects as it does not provide room for change in the resources or methods. Conversely, the agile technique is more flexible and prioritizes teamwork and collaboration among the stakeholders. This method strives to incorporate customer feedback in its operations and will release project iterations that reflect consumer feedback to satisfy their needs. Thus, the main difference between the traditional and the agile techniques is that the former follows a predefined process whereas the latter ventures into the evolving changes and seeks the contribution of the stakeholders to determine its actions relating to the project. It is suitable for businesses operating in highly dynamic fields, which require a constant update of their requirements or resources to match the market needs. The primary business that benefits from the agile approach is the software industry based on its dynamic nature. There are constant developments for new software, making it necessary to adopt a project management method that is adaptable to the changes. Many other businesses are also embracing agile methodologies since the business world is gradually transitioning into another dimension – business agility (Businessmap, 2024). Consequently, it is no longer tenable to rely on simple management tools on a team level. Instead, companies are realizing the need for all departments to think and act more flexibly.
