Globalists,
We began a discussion of the Determinants of Culture in Southwest Asia (Iran is a part of this region) and the Mideast in our first class.
Each of you has a worksheet to use to take notes as you watch the video. We will continue to see clips of this production in class. And Homework 1 will be to use your notes and write a short summary (6 paragraphs) about Iran.

Homework 1 is to take the worksheet that you completed while watching Rick Steves' documentary, "Iran: Travel as a Political Act," and convert your notes into 6 paragraphs (1 and a half pages = ~375 words). Follow APA style by adding a cover page and a reference page.

Iran is a unique country with many developments. The country’s social structure is characterized by segregation. This means and men and women are separated in social gatherings. For instance, in a cafeteria, there is a side for men and a separate side for women. This is attributed to religious beliefs and doctrines, which also guide the social structure. The country's social structure is based on the upper class, working or salaried middle class, and the low-income earners such as farmers.
Iranians are Arabs, but they do not speak Arabic. They are Persians, and they speak Farsi. This is the dominant language among the local people, even though other languages exist. English is also used in the country. Other languages are also spoken in the country due to influence from neighbors such as Arabic and other languages (“Rick Steves’ Iran,” 2014). The language developments trace its origins during the Persian empire. With cuneiform, the Persian language was first transformed into writing.
