Instructions Step 1 – Choose a Company (Real or Case-Based): Select a company you are familiar with but not one discussed in the readings. Briefly describe its strategic objectives and key performance challenges. Step 2 – Apply the Balanced Scorecard Framework (8 points) Using Kaplan & Norton’s framework, identify one goal and one key performance indicator (KPI) for each of the four perspectives: Financial Perspective: e.g., revenue growth, cost efficiency Customer Perspective: e.g., satisfaction, retention, NPS Internal Process Perspective: e.g., innovation cycle time, quality control Learning & Growth Perspective: e.g., employee engagement, skill development Explain how these measures align with the company’s strategy. Step 3 – Evaluate Strategy Execution (8 points) Drawing from Nielsen et al. and Mankins & Steele, evaluate the company’s strategy execution using the following questions: How well are strategic priorities communicated and cascaded through the organization? Are resources, incentives, and decision rights aligned with the strategy? What execution barriers exist, and how could the Balanced Scorecard help overcome them? Step 4 – Reflection (4 points) Conclude with your insights: What makes the Balanced Scorecard a powerful tool for bridging strategy and performance? How could you apply this tool in your current or future leadership role?
