Leaders versus managers
Leaders and managers share some similar qualities, such as controlling and directing others toward set goals; however, there is a distinction between the two. Leaders are more than managers; while managers focus on running things smoothly in the office, a leader goes beyond this by challenging, encouraging through motivating their subordinates with the aim of achieving long term goals. According to Algahtani (2014), managers focus on short term goals and will try to avoid all risks at any cost; thus, they have established standards and regulations to increase efficiency. However, leaders aim at inspiring and motivating others toward achieving long term objectives. They create passion in others to enable them to reach their vision. Nevertheless, Perrin (2010) concludes that leadership and management aim at achieving set objectives, and they tend to be used interchangeably while Algahtani (2014), posits that all leaders can be managers, and not all managers are good leaders.
