“The notion of actively pursuing your own leadership development means, in a practical sense, that you commit yourself to a path of continual leadership development, a path that ensures you build on your existing strengths and areas for improvement in an ongoing way” (Dann, 2022, p. 10). Leaders must hone several viewpoints about leading to recognize potential pitfalls and challenges which could upend their effectiveness.



In this assignment, you will use the eight perspectives presented in Chapter 2 of Paul L. Dann’s Managing and Leading Nonprofit Organizations: A Framework for Success (2022) to compose a personal leadership perspectives development plan.



Step 1. Review and Select

Review Dann’s eight leadership perspectives. Reflect on how well you currently demonstrate each of the eight perspectives and select three as a focus for improvement.



Step 2. Analyze and Brainstorm

Analyze strategies for developing leadership perspectives at the end of Chapter 2. Then, brainstorm answers to the following questions:



What role does grit play in one or more of the leadership perspectives you selected for development?

How can you develop the grit needed?

Who will mentor you in this journey?

What measurable objectives can you set for yourself to develop each perspective?

What resources and actions are needed to meet those objectives?

What strategies will you use to develop your three chosen leadership perspectives?

You will incorporate this brainstorming into your plan.

I will do this for three months to help me learn to listen to the perspective of other people. The only resource needed will be active listening. I will journal on a daily basis the extent to which I was adaptive. Psychological experts argue that most people do not listen intently (Amiri et al., 2020. One of the ways to know that you are listening intently is when you are not eager for the other person to finish speaking so that you can give your input. Instead, you listen to what they say, digest it, and then compose a response. LEADERSHIP PERSPECTIVE GOAL 2 The second leadership quality I want to develop further is a charismatic perspective. Charismatic leaders possess strong personal qualities (Dann, 2022). They use these qualities to inspire their followers. These leaders also possess excellent motivation skills and can set a great example. A measurable goal will be taking a public speaking course in the next three months. Further, I will actively seek opportunities to speak to public audiences to improve my public speaking skills. Charismatic leaders have a remarkable ability to influence people through their speaking skills. Consequently, this is an area of focus. Evidence has shown that effective public speaking is a skill that can be learned.
