Leaders and Managers

Essay Instructions:

Instructions: This instrument is based upon the assigned textbook readings; daily newspaper readings; class lectures and class discussions; and career management tips from the first week of class through the present. Use any/ all of the assigned readings, lectures and lecture notes, any handouts, plus personal experience (jobs, internships, previous classes) and observations. In answering the questions, make appropriate and relevant references to the readings, slides, book reviews, or Wall Street Journal, PRWeek, or NY Times articles. Note: do not rely solely on any one source for your responses. While these are “open book” essays, and any academic or professional material is acceptable, do not consult, collaborate, share responses, or receive assistance from other students, professors or practitioners, friends or family members. Since personal observations are encouraged in many of these questions, your instructor will keep all responses in the strictest of confidence. The evaluation is valued at 80 points. Below you will find two sections, with 11 questions. You must answer TWO of the three questions from Section A; and in Section B, you can choose any FOUR questions. In the end, you will have completed six questions, each valued at 12 points, for a total of 72 points. The overall quality of your writing will be assessed at between one and eight points. Be 1 sure to indicate the number of each chosen question. Answer all questions completely, within the guidelines for length noted below. Format and Length: Short essay form is preferred, but outlines are acceptable if/when appropriate. Please type your responses, doublespaced, and save a copy of your submission for yourself. Each question should be a minimum of 250 words and a maximum of 500 words—using 10- point type as a minimum and 12-point type as a maximum. APA Style is required. (This equates roughly to one page minimum to two pages maximum.) Citations: For each question, give at least two distinct reference citations used in creating your response. (That means do not use the same source in any one question.) Place the citations at the end of each response, not at the end of the exam. A bibliography at the end of the exam is not necessary. Again, APA Style is required.

Question #3
There are key differences between leaders and managers. Based on what we learned in class, research, and my experience, leaders inspire groups to get a task done. Leaders create an open space where they essentially provide direction for individuals and give constructive feedback to reach maximum growth and potential (Digirolamo & Tkach, 2019). They also show the people they lead how to achieve particular goals.
Leaders are also risk-takers. They take positive their failures and use success to their advantage. Leaders use failure as a motivation to keep moving forward and to show the team that taking risks is part of the process to success. On the other hand, managers are more work-oriented (Digirolamo & Tkach, 2019). They tend to have a control and problem-solving mindset rather than a motivational one. Managers tell you what to do to achieve the organizational goal or objective rather than show you how to do it.
Selena Gomez is someone I consider a strong leader and role model. Selena was featured in Firsts, a multimedia project for Time magazine (Time, n.d). She was also the first person to reach 100 million followers on Instagram. Selena has had leadership...
