Executive Summary
Hooker uses fabric, leather, wool, wooden frames and metal mechanisms as raw materials to produce its domestic upholstered furniture. The firm imports casegoods inventory and particular upholstery items in quantities that allow it to achieve its internal in-stock goals and to meet the delivery requirements of its clients. The packaging of its products includes consumer assembly instructions, bar codes, content description, product names, and manufacturer branding. The packaging materials used by Hooker are not recyclable and are not made from recycled material. It is recommended that rather than relying heavily on imported furniture from China and Vietnam only, it should seek to strive to find additional sources of the finished products. Also, the packaging should be designed with inbuilt protection for offering additional protection against damage during shipping to the customers. Lastly, Hooker should strive to use eco-friendly packing solutions. The materials principles that would give the firm the most efficient material handling system are planning, system, and environmental principles.
