Organizational change has become a necessary undertaking in the modern world, primarily because of the technological revolution that characterizes the 21st century. An example of organizational change is one that occurred in Microsoft under CEO Satya Nadella. After he was named CEO in 2014, Nadella undertook a significant restructuring of the company to eliminate internal competition between different units (Singh & Ramdeo, 2020). As noted by Signh and Ramdeo (2020), the company's key business units viewed each other as rivals rather than as partners. At the time, the company's major competitors, such as Google and Apple, were making significant leaps in the technological world, while Microsoft struggled to keep up. As described by Business Insider (2020), bureaucracy and internal politics resulted in the company falling behind. However, the appointment of Nadella as the company's CEO marked a turnaround in the direction and, consequently, the company's performance.
