Introduction: The changing economy and workforce demographics pose challenges for employers in their recruitment process. It is important for employers to understand the changing demographics so they can use effective recruitment strategies. In this assignment, you will be analyzing reports produced by the United States (U.S.) Bureau of Labor Statistics and determining how the changing workplace demographics impact the recruitment process. You will also be analyzing how organizations can improve diversity and inclusion.

The following Course Outcome is assessed in this assignment:
GEL-2.02: Interpret data as they apply to a discipline-specific situation.

Instructions:
Visit the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics website. At this site, go to “Subjects”/”Worker Characteristics” (under “Employment”), and on the left side menu under “CPS Topics”, select “demographics.” Interpreting the data from this website and incorporating additional scholarly research, compose a 2–3-page expository research paper addressing the checklist items.

Checklist:
Explain the changes in the demographics of the U.S. workforce.
Address three specific demographics from the website such as: “age, certifications and licenses, disability, educational attainment, families and marital status, foreign-born workers, older workers…”, etc. (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2021).
Interpret how these changing demographics can impact an organization’s recruitment strategies.
Discuss how an organization can improve diversity and inclusion.

The workforce in the U.S. is determined by demographic factors such as age, sex, and education levels. The concentration of people belonging to the same age group, for instance, may depend on the kind of work, the remuneration, and working hours, among other factors. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics [BLS] (2021), the workforce comprises more middle-aged people than the other age groups. For instance, 78% of people aged 35-44 years were in the workforce as opposed to 54.7% of people aged 60-64 years. This is an indicator that, most probably, employers find middle-aged people more productive even in the face of challenges. The statistics also showed that 85.5% of men aged 35-44 years were in the workforce, contrasting sharply with women of the same age group. 71.2% of women in this group were in the workforce. Again this disparity shows that men have better chances of securing employment than women. This could also mean that fewer married women sought employment owing to motherly responsibilities.
Last but not least, the other important demographic factor is education levels. According to the statistics provided by the BLS, 71.1% of people with advanced degrees were in the U.S. workforce in 2021. This clearly shows the present-day labor market favors a well-educated workforce.
