The success of a project is not solely based on the milestones achieved. Sometimes, the journey is not smooth sailing and requires facing various challenges that are unprecedented and unavoidable. There are circumstances when the team faces issues, and the team leader has to communicate the bad news to the stakeholders to provide an insight for a good solution. No one is an exemption to such inevitable events, including me. This paper will discuss the steps I took to communicate bad news to project stakeholders adequately.
Before announcing the bad news, the leader must ascertain that the issue is unquestionable and needs prompt attention. This is to keep the internal matters under control and prevent wasting others’ time. Upon assuring the problem, the next step is to investigate its root causes and find all the factors that led to such a situation. Then, the group must identify the possible courses of action.
