Decisions are part and parcel of today's organizations. Everything in the company today is based on decision-making, and failure to make the right decisions is always inappropriate – whether major or minor (Kourdi, 2011). We observe significant and minor decision-making processes in our places of work daily, and this paper explores strategic and operational decisions, examples of programmed and unprogrammed decisions, and decision-making styles used by our supervisors in our workplaces.
Examples of strategic and operational decisions
A strategic decision is relevant to the company's long-term goals and objectives. Strategic decisions in my workplace include IT investment, information security, and customer experience decisions. These examples fall under the strategic decision category because they are introduced to help the company attain and maintain a competitive edge. These decisions are hard to reverse and have a crucial resource proposition for a company.
An operational decision is a decision adjusted and improved frequently in correspondence to the company's internal and external conditions. Examples of operational decisions in my workplace include deciding who loads and unloads trucks, deciding the nature of the product marketing campaign, deciding which order schedules for manufacturing first, and determining the type of raw materials to purchase. These decisions are made to ensure the business's day-to-day operations are smooth. Managers make these decisions daily to ensure that internal operations run smoothly.
