The meaning of that tip is that there is a need for the CIO to exercise a balanced approach when it comes to the formulation and implementation of strategies. In the management of the IS architecture, there will always be instances where short-term and long-term decisions are needed. Both of these decisions are essential in their own right, and it is up to the CIO to view which one is applicable in which instance.
