A theory delineates interrelated concepts (constructs), propositions, and definitions that provide a systematic viewpoint of a specific phenomenon by specifying associations amongst variables, inclined to delineate and predict the phenomenon (Kivunja, 2018). Based on this definition, a theory: (a) constitutes propositions comprising of interrelated and defined constructs, (b) defines the associations among constructs, and thus offers a systematic approach to the issue delineated by the parameters, and (c) describes a given phenomenon. A theory relates to behavior since it provides a theoretical basis to develop an intervention. For example, the social cognitive theory could be utilized to create a physical activity intervention that can be delivered through the internet. Theory could inform health behavior change in diverse ways, from determining theoretical concepts to identifying the participants inclined to benefit from the health behavioral change intervention (Webb et al., 2010). In this vein, a theory is positively associated with the degree of behavioral change in disease-related interventions.
