According to literary terms, ambiguity is a state where something is vague, unclear, and confusing. There are several examples of ambiguity in the story. These include the utilization of language, which would rather bear several meanings. Secondly, the narrator seems not to have clarity of the events of the entire story. Additionally, the forest appears in a dark setting, which camouflages the figures. The author uses ambiguity to hint at Goodman's experience. Goodman's experience concerned little about how his faith would appear to others than him meeting the devil. He had little comprehension of whether his dream exposed his dark side.
