The recent changes to the breakfast and lunch programs to improve nutrition and health
Breakfast and lunch program is a leeway to healthy children. An improvement towards the same would greatly boost the health and nutrition provisions of many students who utilize the service throughout their learning process. The program was initiated to economize on the time spent and also to create uniformity among students. In the resent past the program has been criticized of been the core contributor of poor and deteriorating health which causes obesity amongst the youths. Likewise, I concur with the program criticizers and I think a change would better serve the nation and the affected persons. This paper will critically analyze about the recent changes to the breakfast and lunch programs to improve nutrition and health (Nutrition.gov, 2013).
Provision of breakfast and lunch in public schools has being an instrumental program which saves time and encourage uniformity among students. The program has however been challenged by many as the main contributor of poor health causing obesity among it partakers. As a health and wellness consultant I also concur with the program critics. There is a great need to change the nutrition of our whole program in order to boost our generation health and wellness. It is therefore important to consider providing better meals to our students since by doing so we shall be bettering our national health (Nutrition.gov, 2013). In order to do so, the program should increase fruits and other complementary green vegetables to the current breakfast and lunch program. The move should also seek to reduce salt and fat content in the current program.
Improvement of nutrition and dietary ingredients in breakfast and lunch program will significantly reduce the current overweight problem that has invaded our youngsters. This move will also contribute to a healthy nation as supported by the Healthy and hunger-free kids Act of 2010. Although some people feels that regulation of breakfast and lunch program alone cannot significantly reduce the current obesity problems, it will play a significant role in eradication of the problem (Nutritionfirstwa, 2012).
