The concept of critical thinking emerged during the era of early Greek Philosophers. I find it intriguing how famous Greek Philosophers, such as Socrates, embraced an inquisitive attitude to discover the meaning and truth of crucial life questions. I believe that if I adopt such an approach, it can renew my purpose in life and clarify my goals. In the past, I always thought that critical thinking involved in being cynical or critical. However, my reading has made plain the deeper meaning of critical thinking. I have learned that it enhances my reasoning and thinking ability (Guillot, p.2). It’s a robust process that takes into account various points of view and ideas.
One thing I found encouraging is that critical thinking can be developed. Various models, such as the Paul model, provide specific elements that, if applied, can help me learn to think critically. They include information, question, concept, inference, implication, point of view, reasoning, and assumption. I found the question element to be particularly compelling as it will help me isolate a central problem or issue in any complicated scenario. I like how it is described within the context of a military environment (Guillot, p.5). My reading brought to the fore the significance of a military leader developing critical thinking to implement effective strategies during combat.
