1. Summarize the plot of Addison's Cato as if you were writing a wiki article about it (but do NOT consult the wiki article on it!). Who are the main characters, what are their interests and concerns, and how does the story unfold?
Written by Joseph Addison, Cato is one of the most successful plays in the history. It was performed in April 1713 and based on the life of Marcus Porcius Cato Uticensis (famous with the name of Cato the Younger). As the play opens, Portius and Marcus can be seen admiring their father’s courage and bravery. They assure each other that Cato will definitely defeat Julius Caesar and there is nothing to worry about. For quite a long time, Cato fights against the cruel, and his resistance to Julius Caesar makes him an icon of justice, liberty, republicanism, and virtue. The main characters of this play are Cato, Portius, Marcus and Julius Caesar (Courthope).
