While most think that the American workers are the best, the truth is that they are nowhere close. Over the past few years, the skill level of American workers has declined in comparison with many other peers across the globe. While Americans possess an average literacy skill we are no longer among the top performers. Americans are about average in terms of problem solving with computers but are below average in some of the most valued skills such as mathematics. In the article, it is argued that since the 2007-8 recession, the market structure of the US economy did not alter the demand and supply of education or skills. The truth is, before the recession America suffered from massive inadequate education, which sadly remains the case to this date (Porter, 2013).
