Your Name Your Institution of Affiliation Your Professor’s Name March 9, 2018 To Build a Fire The story To Build a Fire by Jack London has been widely read partly for its interesting plot and another for being to entice the readers and make them think about how humans stand against nature. However, while instances like this could still happen in the Alaskan Wilderness, I believe that the chances of surviving are now higher as compared a century ago, due to the changes in the region. For one the population of Alaska today has exponentially risen as compared to the days of Alaskan Gold Rush. Despite still having no signal and/or reception in the area, the chances of finding a road, a cabin, and or other hikers would increase one’s chances of survival many times. This does not include yet the fact that these days, the number of patrols have increased too. Thus, if the story happens today, the hiker would have survived given that he is lucky enough to see a cabin, see a road, or perhaps cross-ways with other hikers. Aside from the changes in demographics of the region, technology has now made things much easier and safer.
