Personal Statement: Social Work Interest - Scholship Question
Describe a situation in which you were the recipient/provider of help enotionally,socially or economically, and if/how this situation impacted the desire to pursue an advanced degree in social work. I also advocated for a client from the congo helped her file her taxes where her ex- husband had file her taxes against her will and he claimed all the children. she got her taxes filed and put a case against him. Being from the congo she didn't know a lot of her rights so I helped her in a lot of taking her around dhandling her business talking for her because she was not easily understood.

My interest in social work dates back to my formative years. My early struggles with education and the sheer determination and resilience that I had, made me take that one more step. Having achieved my Bachelors degree in social work, I would now like to concentrate furthering my studies through pursuing my masters.
I toiled a lot in my special education classes as I didn’t have anyone who could give me the guidance or inspire me to study. I was virtually all alone, trying to find my way I what was by then, total academic darkness. These experiences made me opt to do my best to help others, so that they couldn’t suffer in a similar way that I did. In the process of helping out, most of the people I assisted could later come and appreciate of how I usually bring the best in them. I later came to learn that through my constant advice and attention, I have been able to bring hope to some who had already lost hope in life. I ensure that they are empowered and psyched up again to pursue their dreams.
There is this one time in particular, during one of my summer holidays when I was delegated to take care of a lady who had given up on life after losing much of what she had, through accident. She was suicidal based on how she talked. Using a combination of what I had studied in school, and my personal strengths, I managed to hold a three hour session with her. I tried establishing a common ground with her through empathy, before I managed to break her mental barrier. At the end of it, she had a different perspective towards life and was saw she could do more with her life. I felt humbled not only with my ability, but also the new leases of life that these people got.
