Introduction
Some days ago, I got a chance to visit the Shanghai Museum, which is situated in China’s Huangpu District of Shanghai. It is one of the best art museums in China and features more than 110,000 pieces of bronze, furniture, calligraphy, ceramics, ancient coins, seals, paintings, sculptures, foreign art, minority art, and jades. The Shanghai Museum also houses items of national importance like specimens of a transparent bronze mirror that remind us of the Han Dynasty. It has a total of three exhibition halls and eleven galleries, and the permanent galleries that I visited along with my friends are Gallery of Ancient Chinese Bronze, Gallery of Ancient Chinese Ceramics, Gallery of Ancient Chinese Seals and Gallery of Ancient Chinese. In addition, the Gallery of Chinese furniture in Ming and Qing dynasties and the Gallery of Arts and Crafts by Chinese Minorities caught my attention in no time.
Analysis Related to the Topic
What shapes, types, and colors of porcelain did Chinese royalty prefer, and why? I could see different ceramic materials (porcelain) in the Gallery of Ancient Chinese Ceramics. Amazingly, these were of blue, white, yellow, red, green and pink colors, and these are the shades that were preferred by Chinese royalty (Lim, 2018). The transformations of ordinary clay into attractive objects have always captivated the imagination of people throughout history. It is widely believed that Chinese ceramics are unique in their own way, and in ancient times, they were made for export purposes, the domestic market and the imperial court.
