Society has always been an interesting topic of study for many philosophers. It is easy to understand human behavior, but it is harder to understand that of society as a whole. An unwritten social contract governs the way a society functions and, therefore, the way people should act with respect to it. Jean-Jacques Rousseau studies part of how society functions through the concept of civil religion. In this paper, the author explores Rousseau's meaning of "the civil profession of faith" and its role in his vision of political society.
