- “Don’t Let Time Manage You”
- William Atkinson explains the importance of time management for students. Respond to his article and offer what you recommend to manage time as a student. In each body paragraph, include a direct quote from the reading and respond with your own specific example from personal experience to support your topic sentence and thesis. Don’t simply summarize the recommendations in the reading. Your audience would be college students. (Pitfall: Summarizing what the author recommends rather than offering your recommendation)
- “Stress Busters!”
- Mark Rowh provides information on the nature of stress and different strategies for stress management. Respond to his article and offer what strategies you recommend to manage stress as a college student. In each body paragraph, include a direct quote from the reading and respond with your own specific example from personal experience to support your topic sentence and thesis. Don’t simply summarize the recommendations in the reading. Your audience would be college students.
- “How to Mark a Book”
- Mortimer Adler proposes marking up books in order to better understand them. Respond to his article and offer effective reading strategies you recommend to college students to improve their understanding of college-level texts. Effective Time Management for Students
Time is perhaps one of the most if not the most, valuable resources in a man’s life. Anybody can only have so much of it, and wasted time cannot ever be recovered. One of the phases of a man’s life where the importance of time can be seen is his college life. It is through this phase in life when a person learns to balance a variety of things including his social life, career, and relationships, among others. In one article written by Atkinson entitled “Don’t Let time Manage You”, she discussed some of the things that could help a college student to be able to manage time wisely and effectively. She noted several things such as the importance of discipline, early training in time management, as well as the use of some tools for time management. The article also noted how important time management is in order to defeat the misconception that college students have “more time”. In line with my experience in life, I believe that in order for college students to effectively manage their time, it is crucial that they exhibit a sense of discipline and proactivity as early as possible in life.
Proactivity and Discipline for Time Management
One of the traits that college students should have in order to manage their time effectively is ‘discipline’. Discipline, as a process in time management, means that every student must consciously think about how mundane things could affect their whole schedule and give an effort in order to prevent them. In the article written by Atkinson, she noted that one of the pitfalls of college students is their belief that they have a lot of time. One of the common examples of this is the relative ease and temptation of students to hang “out with other students in the dorm or [their] department”. Even in my own experience, I found out that even if I try to make my own calendar of schedule and post it in the wall, small things like having a friend call for lunch, watching one episode of my favorite series, or going out to the market could actually accumulate and take most of my time without me noticing. In line with discipline as a process in time management, it becomes apparent that college students must always exert a conscious effort to prevent themselves from doing things that are not important or necessary.
