The online meeting was led by a chairperson who introduced the purpose of the meeting and set a good tone for the discussion. The chairperson briefly shared her journey with addiction before inviting the other participants to share their experiences. To ensure fairness, the round-robin format was used to facilitate sharing experiences. Round robin format provides taking turns so that every participant is included.
One of the most captivating and exciting portions of the meeting was the great sense of community and support portrayed. From the meeting, it was clear that the organizers were interested in creating a robust environment where every client would feel safe and secure. The participants were reminded of the importance of providing support to each other as well as putting judgment/ criticism at bay. This technique is excellent for helping any person who may be feeling ashamed about their experience. An environment without judgment or criticism would enable such a person to be confident and open up. Consequently, the meeting acted as a suitable environment for people to share their experiences and struggles with alcohol addiction.
After sharing experiences, the facilitator went ahead to expound on the 12 steps of narcotics anonymous. She did a great job breaking down the steps so every participant would understand.
