According to Lore CITATION Nic12 \n \t \l 1033 (2012), each person has their own definition and perception of purpose. However, for the purpose of understanding the importance of purpose, Lore defines it as an “ongoing commitment to a principle that becomes who you are” (p. 407). In other words, it is not a goal or a belief to be realized but a place where beliefs and goals come from. In essence, when a person realizes their purpose, they become reinvented because of the new beliefs and points of daily actions that enhance the purpose. Unlike meaningful work, which means satisfying oneself as they are now, finding something they find joy in doing, and pursuing something that matters, living from purpose exists in the reality of pure creation and innovation.
Thus, when a person is living by their purpose, it means they are doing what really matters to them and that whatever they are doing is aligned with their values and beliefs. This means that people living for a purpose are not only defined by what they are doing but by the beliefs and values that are fueling what they are doing. Thus, it is an ongoing commitment to a principle that becomes who the person is. Researchers, psychologists, counselors, and life coaches agree that living by a purpose has positive health outcomes, including peace of mind, psychological resilience, and a longer lifespan. Further, living from a purpose gives people a sense of direction that gives them a reason to want to live.
