My Experience in the Linguistics Course Student Name Institution Course Professor Name Date My Experience in the Linguistics Course A mere hook develops when people inquire how language works since most individuals use it on a daily basis without observing the concealed rules of language. The linguistics course experience made me peep under the hood of the speech and observe how the human communication is reliant on structure, sound systems, social meaning, and mental processes. My take on grammar and correctness aided me in an informal way at the beginning of the course, however, at the end, I had a deep understanding of the way linguists examine language as a scientific object, but not a set of rules that have to be followed. A significant learning experience was that linguistics is a description of what speakers do rather than an evaluation of their language. The information about the dialects altered my cognition as I observed the influence of social power on the formation of the ideas about the right language. Each dialect possesses a complete grammar, and rich patterns are used by each speaker without any conscious thought. I liked the fact that Standard English was not promoted through better reasoning, but by institutions.
