Liberal and Conservative Solutions to Solve Race Problems
Racism has been one of the significant problems in the United States of America (USA) since the country got independence. Many administrations, including liberals and conservatives, have tried to come up with an appropriate solution for this issue without success. For example, Abraham Lincoln enacted and implemented the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, which freed all slaves in South America. Despite this new dawn for Americans, especially African Americans and Indian Americans, discrimination did not end. Today, the Trump administration is facing the same problem. The paper compares and contrasts the solutions to the race problem by liberals and conservatives.
Liberals are the individuals whose doctrine is to protect and enhance the freedom of others. In particular, liberals are usually Democrats. They believe that people with different thinking and ideologies should be handled with respect and dignity (Riley, 2019). As such, the primary solution for racism, according to liberals, is enacting and implementing policies to eradicate inequality so that all Americans can be treated equally. Liberals propose that the government should ensure that all employees, regardless of their races, cultures, ethnicities, skin color, age, gender, or religion, should be compensated based on their contributions and performances. Since democracy is for all the people, no individual should feel as if he or she is in the wrong place. Another solution for racism is the equal provision of human needs. For example, all Americans should have access to public transport, education, healthcare, housing, and food.
On the contrary, conservatives promote the traditional social organization in the context of civilization and culture. These individuals are usually Republicans who do not believe that the government has significant roles to play in eliminating racism. For this reason, conservatives believe that people are the ones who should learn how to treat others well.
