Introduction
Different regions of the world experienced civilization at different times during the past. Civilization, in some way, came via various ways. Perhaps what is of utmost importance is the fact that the growth and development of language was the major highlight in virtually all civilizations. This is because it set the tone for all means of communication. Development of language enabled people to relate, trade to happen, and to a great extent, breathed life into other fields of education and philosophy. In Europe, the Greek and Roman civilizations were the pioneers. In the Middle East and Arab world, the Persian and the Egyptian civilizations took charge. This paper will however, place more emphasis on the Asian continent, specifically, the Chinese language.
Discussion
China is one of the largest nations on the planet, occupying a massive landmass. The nation is also the most populous in the world, having more than a billion people. With such a size in both population and landmass, the country is rich in indigenous culture. This culture has been slowly over time, been shaped by language. Perhaps worth noting is the act that Chinese mandarin is also the single most spoken language on the planet. Such is that but an example of how rich, the Chinese language is.
The Chinese language is a set of languages employed by the Han individuals in China. Some other ethnic sets that move into China and are declared by the Chinese government as Chinese also use it. Moreover, the Chinese language is used in other parts of the world such as Singapore. Approximately 1.2 billion people around the globe speak some form of Chinese language. Consequently, it is said to be the language with the greatest native speakers. Commentators argue that the language is the most aged language in the globe with over 6000 history years. The Chinese language influences the culture and languages of many countries particularly those close to the native China such as Japan and Korea. However, in the same way, the Chinese language has influenced the languages of other countries it has in turn been influenced. For instance, English terms have found their way in the Chinese syntax and vocabulary from many languages is now Chinese.
History of Chinese Language
The Chinese language is said to have originated from Sino-Tibetan proto-language. A high number of linguistics groups all the varieties of the spoken Chinese as Sino-Tibetan proto-language. The relations between Chinese language and Sino-Tibetan proto-languages are still incredibly unclear (Han, 2017). The attempt to establish the relations between the two languages has not been an easy task because there is no jotted document regarding the split between proto-Sino-Tibetan and Chinese. Old Chinese was the normal language employed in the early and middle Zhou Dynasty. Work to reconstruct old Chinese began with Qing dynasty philologists. Old Chinese owned a sound system in which consonants were separated by the aspiration. Middle Chinese, on the other hand, was employed during the Sui, Tang, and Song dynasties. The evidence for the pronunciation of the language comes from various sources such as rhyming dictionaries, and foreign transliterations.
