It entails qualifications, skills, salary range and the person reporting to. It has been noted that job descriptions are narrative in nature, some with simple shortlisted attributes and competencies (Mrsc.org, 2004). Research has indicated that job description is applied in the benefit of the organization, recruitments, legal aspects and in the performance appraisal (Heathfield, 2012). Job title clarifies on the functions and roles that the actual job carries within the organization; it also indicates the level of the job within particular department. An example, reflecting on finance director and finance accountant, both positions are in the finance department, but finance director is more senior than the finance accountant. Reporting responsibilities is critical in the job description, it reflects the immediate boss. Subordinates are indicated to show employees under the job holder. Summary indicates the main purpose of the job and clearly stipulates all the stakeholders involved in the job. Main accountabilities and tasks clearly defines all the activities expected to be undertaken by the job holder. The achievements expected are clearly defined with no limit set. Environment identifies with the employment conditions with do’s and don’ts; it goes further to define the conduct of the job title. Equipment clearly describes the tools to be applied in order to achieve the desired results (Heathfield, 2012). Job descriptions describe the duties, contributions needed in a position, outcomes, responsibilities qualifications expected and the reporting relationships to the higher offices and to the coworkers (Heathfield, 2012). Objective information is critical in the job descriptions that are extracted from the job analysis. It is wise to update job descriptions with time, never limit employees with details of allowing employees exploit their potential through skills, experience and growth (Mrsc.org, 2004).
