When we think of sports injuries, we think specifically of football players, rugby players, swimmers, and other athletes. This is true as many athletes end up in the emergency room due to severe sports injuries. But there are even more people being attended to in emergency rooms due to injuries obtained through leisure activities.
But first, let's start by understanding the actual scale of sports injuries.
According to Nicholl and Coleman (1996), most non-trivial injuries (injuries that need treatment or restricted participation in an activity) are reported by rugby players. However, it is essential to note that Nicholl and Coleman (1996) only focused on sporting activities in England and Wales in their study.
