Increasing tariffs on Chinese imports would lead to an increase in the cost of products used by average Americans. Chinese companies who import products to the U.S would push some of the cost of the tariffs to American companies and businesses. In turn, the businesses would pass on the cost to the consumers, making Americans spend more money on goods. Also, it would lead to a loss of jobs for Americans. Increase in tariffs on Chinese products would see the Chinese government retaliate with similar tariffs. Accordingly, industries which rely on imports to run their businesses would purchase fewer goods. Thus, they would not need a high number of employees, leading to their dismissal.
