A Word about the Thesis Prior to writing the exam, review “A Word about the Thesis” (also called an argument, opinion, or claim). Review the course model essay for a thesis example and correct essay formatting, then return to this instructional document.

ASSIGNMENT – Final Examination Submit your argumentative-persuasive essay response (500-word minimum, 600-word maximum) to the Rich Lowery reading assignment on pp. 2-3 below, use the standard essay submission procedure to submit your completed final exam essay on Blackboard through the “Final Exam Submission Portal” in the course “Assignments” section. Submit only one document. • Read the instructions directly below and the article, “In Defense of Women’s Sports,” on pp. 2-3. • Using details in the article and your own thoughts and opinions, compose an argumentative-persuasive response to Lowery’s article. Specifically form your opinion (thesis) by agreeing or disagreeing with the idea that “students [should be allowed] to compete in sports as the gender they identify as, with no further requirements.” Take a clear stand on one side of the issue. Assume that participation includes middle and high school, college, and Olympian. • Before forming your thesis (argument), read the entire Lowery article below. Address any part of the Lowery article that you choose, but your final essay must also specifically address the light green highlighted text. • Compose the essay from the third-person point of view of an athlete, biologically female or male, who is involved in sports below the professional level. As a matter of clarity and for the purpose of this assignment, the terms female and male are intended to mean the God-given gender that a female or male is born with, not how a person feels or chooses to self-identify. If you need guidance on point of view, refer to the guidance in the previous essay assignments. The point of view must be clear in each paragraph. Provide a given (first) name for the third person. Review my comments on previous assignments about point of view language. Also click here. • For additional help with third-person point of view, watch and listen to the video titled “Third-Person Point of View” located in the course “How To” section. • Regardless of your opinion, please do not use the exhausted idea of “separation of church and state” unless you can find and correctly cite it in America’s Constitution. CLUE: It is not in the Constitution. • Use two short direct quotations from the Lowery reading (no fewer than two lines each), but the accumulative lines of direct quotations may not exceed five lines of text in your essay response. • Use the standard EH 1301 essay formatting guidance in the model essay. Include an introductory paragraph with underlined thesis, a minimum of three supporting paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph. • No in-text citation is required, but the last page (the page following the last paragraph of text) of your essay must include the Work Cited section that cites the Lowery article. No research is required or assigned for this assignment; however, the Lowery citation provided with the Lowery reading below must appear (in text, not an image) on your final exam’s Work Cited page. The Work Cited page counts up to ten percent of the paper. Students, read this carefully. The topic of this final exam is intended to be societal, not political. As personal experience, this instructor has five absolutely beautiful granddaughters (from 11 to 23) who love sports. This topic has the potential of affecting almost every school in America and millions of American households, especially the homes that are blessed to have girls and women who love sports. As announced Week 1 in the syllabus, the grade on this final exam essay counts as fifteen percent of your overall grade for EH 1301. If you have any questions during the final exam, please ask. Remember, this is not a research course.

Women’s Sports
The argument here is that athletes should not be allowed to compete according to the gender they identify with, and not because of discrimination. Biologically, men and women are different when it comes to growing muscle mass that is needed to become better athletes. Women have estrogen, while men have testosterone which is a huge factor in having a more developed physique to make them stronger athletes than women.
When puberty hits, men get a lot of testosterone, which enhances performance in all aspects. Therefore, they can lift heavier weights, run faster, and they put on bigger muscles if they are training. Adding muscle mass is easy for them, unlike women who do not get massive doses of testosterone. Women have estrogen and monthly periods instead, which causes them to feel weak or even pain that men do not have. Not to mention the mood swings and cramps that affect their performance, and this happens every month. Men do not have to think about their monthly period, hormones that give them mood swings, or food cravings.
It does not matter whether an athlete looks like a woman but was born a man, because their biological composition is still the determining factor why they should compete in men’s sports. Even if their levels of testosterone were down, they still have a different body structure and build compared to women.
Aside from that, not all women’s ...
