High school bullying is a systemic issue which affects many students regardless of their religion, gender, socioeconomic status, and race. It is a reiterated aggressive behavior branded by the intent to cause harm and power disparity. Victims of bullying often feel vulnerable and defenseless. Bullying can be disparaging and tenacious. But, it can also be subtle to a point teachers are not aware of it. It can lead to physical, emotional, and psychological problems in the long-run. Hence, it is integral for teachers to identify and recognize its signs and find ways to combat it.
There are different types of bullying: cyberbullying, direct bullying, and indirect bullying. Cyberbullying is the form of bullying where students use social media platforms to post damaging content. Direct bullying is the form of bullying which directly hurts a targeted student. It can either be verbally (commenting or writing information which hurts them emotionally) or physically (wounding a student or their belongings). Indirect bullying is the form of bullying where a student is hurt indirectly such as spreading rumors about someone with the goal of humiliating them.
