First Blog Assignment – Nanook of the North Your Name Subject and section Professor’s Name September 19, 2019 Every film has its own history. They are created, not only by man’s creativity, but also by other factors such as the external environment, the trends of the period, and even the technology that helped create the film. In this lecture, the history of film making in Canada as well as the “first commercially successful documentary film” (Nanook of the North) were discussed CITATION Mor92 \l 1033 (Morris, 1992). Both of these sources would give the audience an idea about how the first films were made in Canada. Upon viewing them myself, I realized that if it wasn’t for the rise of “interest films” that depict “brief scenes of Canadian points of interest” during those times, then Flaherty’s documentary wouldn’t have been made in the first place. In turn, this could even possibly delay the subsequent developments in the film industry, especially since his work is considered as one of pioneers for full length films.
