Over the past years, gamification has gone from being a fringe activity to a pervasive part of modern culture, with a significant increase in the time spent playing video games (Green & Seitz, 2015). The rate at which many people are becoming deeply engaged in video games has led to a series of studies regarding the cause and effect of this activity. The week’s readings and videos have focused on the cognitive effects of video games, strengthening my views on gamification. Before reviewing the materials, I held the notion that playing video games enhances cognitive skills like attention, problem-solving, spatial awareness, and multitasking. Video games often demand attention to visionary and auditory cues due to the detail and interaction levels in the game (Lee, 2022).
